New seamless gutter and downspout installed on a Los Angeles home

Gutter Installation Services: Manage Roof Runoff and Protect Your Property

Rainwater naturally travels toward the lowest edges of a sloped roof. Without an effective drainage system, runoff may fall directly beside exterior walls, entryways, landscaping, and foundation areas.

Properly selected and installed gutters collect water at the roof edge and direct it toward downspouts and approved discharge locations.

New Gutter Installation

A gutter system should be sized and positioned according to the roof areas it serves.

The number of downspouts, gutter profile, available slope, and drainage outlet locations influence how effectively water can move through the system.

A long roof edge with large contributing roof sections may require greater drainage capacity than a small porch roof.

Undersized or poorly positioned gutters can overflow during heavy rain even when they are free of debris.

Types of Gutters

Seamless Aluminum Gutters

Seamless aluminum gutters are formed into continuous sections with fewer joints along the gutter runs.

Joints are still necessary at corners, outlets, and some connections.

Aluminum is lightweight and available in many exterior finishes.

Steel Gutters

Steel gutters provide a rigid option for certain applications. Coating quality, installation conditions, and exposure to moisture affect corrosion resistance.

Copper Gutters

Copper gutters are often selected for architectural appearance and long-term exterior detailing.

They develop a natural patina over time and require compatible fasteners and connectors to avoid problematic metal interactions.

K-Style and Half-Round Gutters

K-style gutters have a shaped front profile and are commonly used on residential properties.

Half-round gutters have a rounded cross-section and may complement traditional architectural styles.

The profile alone does not determine drainage capacity; dimensions, slope, and outlets also matter.

Downspout Installation and Placement

Downspouts carry collected water from roof gutters toward the intended discharge point.

Correct placement is especially important around foundations, walkways, basement walls, and low-lying landscaping.

Depending on site conditions, downspouts may discharge to surface extensions, splash blocks, approved underground drainage connections, or other suitable locations.

Water should not be redirected in a way that creates drainage problems for neighboring properties or violates local requirements.

Replacing Old Gutters

Existing gutters may need replacement when they are heavily corroded, repeatedly separating at joints, pulling away from the building, or failing to provide sufficient drainage capacity.

Before replacement, fascia condition and mounting surfaces should be evaluated.

Installing new gutters on weakened or deteriorated fascia boards may lead to future attachment problems.

Gutter Maintenance After Installation

New gutters still require periodic attention.

Leaves, sediment, roof debris, and vegetation can obstruct drainage. Regular cleaning and observation help keep water moving through the system.

Gutter guards may reduce some debris accumulation, but they do not eliminate maintenance requirements.

FAQ

Gutter Installation FAQs

What size gutters does my home need?

Gutter size depends on how much roof area drains into each run, the roof pitch and the number of downspouts. Undersized gutters can overflow in heavy rain even when they are clean. We measure your roof and recommend a size and layout that handles the runoff.

Are seamless gutters better than sectional gutters?

Seamless gutters are formed in continuous lengths on site, so they have fewer joints along each run. Fewer joints means fewer places for leaks to develop. Corners, outlets and some connections still need joints, which we seal and install carefully.

How many downspouts do I need?

It depends on the length of each gutter run and the roof area it serves. Long runs and large roof sections usually need more downspouts. Placement matters too, because water should be directed away from foundations, walkways and neighboring properties.

Do gutter guards mean I never have to clean my gutters?

No. Gutter guards can reduce how much debris collects, but they do not eliminate maintenance. Fine debris, sediment and leaves can still build up on or under guards, so periodic checks and cleaning are still recommended.

Can you install new gutters on my old fascia boards?

We inspect the fascia first. If the boards are rotted or weak, new gutters may not stay securely attached. In that case we recommend repairing or replacing the damaged fascia before installing the new gutter system.

A gutter installation should be designed for the building rather than selected on appearance alone.
